Zejtun Corinthians shared the exchanges with leaders Zebbug Rangers during the first-half.

Early on Zejtun’s striker Mario Farrugia was very close with a header which went inches wide and on another occasion Jean Paul Abela’s inswinging corner-kick was cleared off the goal line by George Saliba.

Zebbug had a Nazzareno Abela which just missed the target and the same player was then denied by Fardell.

On another occasion a dangerous George Saliba crosshot hit the side netting and then Jeremy Gatt hit just wide from close-range.

Three minutes after the restart Zejtun were close to taking the lead through Steve Shead whose shot was blocked by Pace and in the 50th minute the Zebbug keeper was again on hand to save off a long-range dipper by Mario Farrugia.

Gradually Zebbug dictated the match and they were close on various occasions through Errol Cachia, Lawrence Vella and George Saliba.

The match seemed heading towards a goalless draw but in the 85th minute Zebbug captain Gordon Mallia managed to beat Fardell from close-range to ensure the Rangers?eighth win of the season.

Qrendi-Mtarfa 1-2

Mtarfa went close after eight minutes through Giorgio Cumbo with Qrendi gradually assuming the initiative with a shot by Josef Mansueto brining the best out of Muscat.

Qrendi were again close through Martin Briffa and Michael Camilleri and on another occasion a low shot by Joe Ellul was blocked by Muscat.

At the other end Mtarfa created a goal scoring opportunities through Peter Spiteri and Mario Stivala with Qrendi replying through Joe Mercieca whose shot went inches wide of the far post.

In the opening stages of the second-half Qrendi wasted two clear goal scoring opportunities through Adrian Muscat but their pressure paid off in the 63rd minute as they opened the score through Joseph Mercieca with a strong shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Mtarfa replied through a dangerous Joe Farrugia free-kick with Qrendi losing an easy opportunity through Jesmond Azzopardi. In the 85th minute Mtarfa made it one-all through an angled shot by Mario Stivala and moments later they ended up with ten players as Stefano Briffa was booked for a second time and was sent off.

Five minutes into added time Mtarfa grabbed the winning goal through Omar Smeir. This is Mtarfa’s first win in their first season in M.F.A. football.

Attard-Fgura United 1-1

Attard went close after just five minutes through Firas Aboulezz whose shot was saved by Farrugia and the later was again on hand in the 12th minute when he blocked James Anastasi’s low shot.

Attard pushed forward and they were close to taking the lead in the 35th minute as Floyd Farrugia’s conclusion was blocked by Rodney Galea on the goal line.

At the other end Fgura were denied by Formosa off an attempt by Matthew Spiteri with Attard responding through Floyd Farrugia whose shot was parried by Ranier Farrugia.

Attard broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Firas Aboulezz who managed to beat Farrugia from a well-taken free-kick.

Fgura replied through a Clayton Garzia header which was saved by Formosa but on 63 minutes they were back on level terms through an excellent shot by Rodney Galea from the edge of the penalty area.

On another occasion Fgura were close through Daniel Said with Attard being denied by Farrugia late in the match off a Mark Saliba header. In injury-time Fgura missed a clear opportunity through Clayton Garzia.

Section ‘B’

Gudja-Kirkop 5-1

Kirkop went close early on through a point blank shot by Tyron Bonnici whose shot was parried by Zammit but on five minutes Gudja took the lead with Mark Galea’s cross being headed in by Roderick Debattista.

In the 13th minute Gudja were denied by Mizzi off an attempt by Terence Vella with Kirkop losing Stefan Busuttil in the 17th minute as he was shown the red card following an incident with an opposing player.

In the 20th minute Terence Vella made it 2-0 in a swift counter-attack and later on a shot by Roderick Debattista was cleared off the line by Alan Deidun.

In the 38th minute Gudja increased further their lead through Terence Vella,, undoubtedly the best player on the field of play.

Nine minutes after the restart Charles Pace scored a consolation goal for Kirkop but Gudja replied through Terence Vella in the 63rd minute who thus notched his hat-trick.

In the 78th minute Gudja added a fifth and final goal with Roderick Debattista beating Mizzi with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
