Cricket: Marsa Back on top after beating Melita

On Saturday Marsa C.C played Melita C.C in the Globalair winter league. Marsa won the toss and elected to bat. John Grima and Sarfraz Ali opened the batting. Grima was caught by the substitute fielder (J.Muscat) of the third ball of the game for two runs.

Ali was also well caught by Tony Slater who had too judge a high spinning ball while moving backwards. Ali made one run. Mike Caruana scored 31 runs from 30 balls and retired. His innings included four fours. He was dropped (a difficult chance) when he only had 16 runs.

Javed Shah scored 12 runs before being bowled by Sagar Krishna and then two balls later bowled Ronnie Sacco for a duck.

Tony Azzopardi also made a duck and was bowled by Sunny Krishna. Robert Krishna made eight runs and Mark Sacco retired after 30 balls and scored 17 runs. Gordon Hewitt scored seven runs not out and Marilyn Camilleri scored one run not out. The Marsa side totalled a mere 97 runs from their allotted overs including 18 extras.

For Melita Sagar Krishna bowled extremely well taking three wickets while Justin Brooke, Sunny Krishna and Colin Willis took a wicket each.

For Melita Godwin Calleja and Sunny Krishna opened the bowling. Krishna was first to go being L.B.W for six runs. Calleja soon followed being bowled for 11 runs. Justin Brooke took the challenge to the Marsa side. Mile O’Meara hit ten runs from nine balls and a couple of quick wickets fell and the game suddenly turned back in favour of the Marsa side.

Colin Willis had other ideas and stayed with Brooke till the end, Melita needing 15 runs of the last over. Brooke who was facing went for an ambitious shot which if he had hit would have probably gone over the site screen, but instead, luckily for the bowler, he missed and was easily stumped by John Grima.

Marsa earned eight runs from the win which put them back on top of the ladder with 25 points. Melita earned one point.

Next Saturday Marsa C.C play Krishna C.C at 1pm. In the morning the academy/nursery is from 9.30 till 1130am.
