Let Go – It’s netball training at ‘Skolasport’

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Skolasport, officially sponsored by Kellogg’s, has been offering netball training for the past two decades. Every Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am a group of young ladies between the ages of 11 and 16 meet up at the Marsa Sports Complex to practice netball sessions.

After the routinely warm-up exercises, specific exercises and skills are practiced directly in conjunction with netball. Individual and team exercises are also performed; and these are followed by a game session of netball were both the rules and techniques are combined and put into practice.

“The ball has to leave the player’s hands within three seconds and this involves ample exercising of foot and hand work as the landing foot has to remain immobile until the ball is passed on,” said instructor Margaret Bartolo at Skolasport. “Thus netball players are bound to develop a good sense of teamwork for satisfactory results to be achieved.”

Sport as essential in life and netball provides mental relief, physical fitness and overall discipline amongst the young. This is one of the prime objectives for which Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, is sponsored by Kellogg’s. Kellogg’s promotes good nutrition and physical exercise for a healthy well-being.
