Malta Independent Friday, 25 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Modernisation and refurbishment works are being carried out by government employees at the Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria, Gozo, in an effort to continue improving the services offered within the same complex.

Works currently being carried out include the setting up of a new gym area which will be equipped with exercise equipment including treadmills, air-walkers and fitness bikes, and a weight-lifting room. The shower and changing rooms adjacent to this area are also to be completely refurbished with works entailing the modernisation of sanitary facilities, tile-laying, plastering as well as electrical works. Once these works are concluded, refurbishment works on the sanitary facilities found on the lower floor will commence.

Other works which are currently being carried out include the replacement of the main-staircase railing, in line with the recently concluded works on the setting-up of a new reception area, the transfer and modernisation of offices from the lower floor to the main entrance and the upgrading of first floor sanitary facilities.

Extension works on the climbing wall, a discipline which was introduced to the Gozo Sports Complex early last year, are also nearing completion, with crash-mats having also been recently procured. A tender for maintenance and waterproofing works at the same complex was also published in the Government Gazette last week.

Besides being frequented by numerous local sport enthusiasts, the Gozo Sports Complex is also used to house social, cultural and commercial events, including those of a scholastic nature such as the annual Carnival for school children, the popular SkolaSport events as well as the daily physical education lessons for secondary schools.
