The Best option

Malta Independent Friday, 25 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Mario Cassar (The MLP will win, TMID, 21 January), writes that Labour will win the election because the people are fed up of the current administration and want a change.

He seems to forget that the Nationalist government, under Lawrence Gonzi, has transformed the country and we run the risk of losing all we have gained so far if Labour was returned to power.

Each time the Labour Party was in government it signalled the start of difficult times for Malta. With the exception of the first few years of the Mintoff government in 1971, a Labour government has always adopted the wrong policies, made the wrong choice, and considered the people as being too ignorant to play their part in the running of the country.

Labour still believes that everything should be state controlled and that anything we need is to be obtained from the government. Under the Nationalists, the country has made giant steps forward in all aspects of our life, and we would be throwing ourselves at the deep end if Labour were to win the coming election.

Of course, the Nationalists have made their mistakes. But they are still the best option that there is.
