San Gwann created the first two occasions. Keith Vella floated a perfect ball in the area from a freekick and Keith Vassallo drove out with a rovesciata and after the ball was partially cleared from a cross by Eric Leone, Greens keeper Kyle Gerada saved the rebound shot by Peter Xuereb.

Grioli was then fouled on the right flank of the area. In the 63rd minute, San Gwann came very close to obtain the equaliser when Stephen Pisani served Farrugia with a perfect through ball in the area and with only Gerada to beat he drove out from a very ideal position.
Floriana kept insisting and trying to increase their slender lead. Marney served Cardona in the area with a cross from the left but the latter missed the upright with his shot and the same player had his shot turned to corner by Vella after he was served with a square pass by Marney. Substitute Orianski Buhagiar served Marney with a cross pass from the right but a defender cleared his shot to a corner and in the last action before the end Spiteri served Buhagiar with a square pass and after he was fouled just outside the area, Vella partially saved the ball from the freekick shot by Spiteri and the ball was eventually cleared to safety by a defender.
