Preparations for today’s registration day for the Blueskies initiative were in full swing yesterday afternoon. Hundreds of people are expected to flock to the venue in Merchants Street, Valletta, where registrations for this initiative will be received.

The offer is intended to give a very affordable opportunity to experience broadband, Jesmond Saliba, the ministry’s communications coordinator explained, hoping the the weather will reflect the name given to the initiative to encourage more people to apply. He announced that it was decided to have a fast track for the elderly and for the disabled. He also thanked all ISPs who are participating in the event for their support to this initiative. Similar thanks were expressed to Bank of Valletta and HSBC, who are also offering free services to those who will take up the offer.

Non-profit organisations without a broadband account in their registered offices, are equally eligible to the scheme and are invited to participate in today’s and Sunday’s registration event. As with households without a broadband account, NGOs will have their new broadband account subsidised to pay e3 a month for their first year of subscription. Households that include a person with disability will have the entire cost of their first year of broadband covered by the subsidy.

The registration is expected to start at 9am. The event will take place in the newly refurbished Merchants Street, Valletta. A registration event for Gozitans will take place tomorrow at the Gozo Ministry.
