A tip off to the police led to them finding a considerable amount of cigarettes on which duty had not been paid, the police said.
The tip off was made on Thursday evening to the Anti Economic Crimes Unit and was about a ship at the Freeport which had contraband cigarettes. A search with the assistance of Customs officials uncovered the cigarettes on a ship berthed at Malta Freeport.
Investigations are continuing.
