Hagar Qim Temples have been closed to visitors since early November and will be open to the public next Sunday in order to give the public the opportunity to see the work done so far in conjunction with the installation of the erection of a temporary shelter.

The first phase of the project consisted of the digging of exploratory holes and trenches in the locations where the canopy will be tied to the ground.

Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples have suffered structural damages on more than one occasion because of heavy rains, which destabilise the megaliths leading to their collapse. Only recently a minor collapse took place as a result of these heavy rains. The temples will be open to the public between 9am and 5pm with the last entry at 4.30pm. There will be guided tours every hour during which visitors will get to know more about the project. Tickets can be bought on site at the reduced rate of e4.50 / Lm1.93 for adults, e2.25 / Lm0.97 for students and seniors and e1 / Lm0.43 for children aged between six and 12 years.

Meanwhile Heritage Malta will be organising a number of events at the Malta Maritime Museum and the Inquisitor’s Palace on Sunday apart from guided tours of the historic Fort St Angelo. The events will include historical interpretations at the Malta Maritime Museum of the sailor’s life on the galleys of the Knights of the Order and performances by the musical group Gukulari Ensemble at the Inquisitor’s Palace. These events will be held in the afternoon.
