A Wrexham man who had moved to live in Malta has died after falling three storeys from the roof of his villa.

Alan Charles Wright, formerly of Little Acton, was an amateur radio enthusiast and it is believed that he was adjusting an aerial on his roof in the town of Rabat when the accident happened.

Before his retirement Mr Wright had worked on radio and radar equipment for the Ministry of Defence at RAF Sealand.

His wife Maureen said: “We lived in Wrexham for about 20 years and moved to Malta on Alan’s retirement seven years ago.”

Mr Wright’s lifelong friend, John Huxley, of Buckley, said: “Alan had a real passion for the radio. He was one of the pioneers of the six-metre system and its founder in Malta.”

Since moving to live in Malta Mr Wright often frequented the Malta Amateur Radio League in Attard. His Welsh call sign was GW3LDH and his call sign in Malta was 9H1AW.
