The Vodafone Malta Foundation is supporting children from Saint Benedict’s College to attend the award-winning Helen O’Grady Academy development through drama programme.

The Academy provides students with unique opportunities to learn English through usage, and develop clear and fluent speech whilst building their confidence and self-esteem. The programme gives children the confidence to participate in all aspects of their lives, encouraging them to ask questions, seek answers and share information with others.

Last month the Vodafone Malta Foundation’s Chairperson, Mrs Gemma Mifsud Bonnici visited students during their high-energy classes. Mr Micallef, School Head, said that the school was very excited about this programme and that he was confident that the children were benefiting very positively from these sessions.

Alan Montanaro, principal for the Malta branch of the Helen O’Grady Academy thanked The Vodafone Malta Foundation for giving these children this opportunity. “The importance of drama in education is a fact, and the benefits are tangible” he explained. “The Academy’s dynamic curriculum has been drawn up over the years by psychologists, teachers, parents and even students to ensure that the lessons remain relevant and important to the children.”

There are over 50,000 students attending Helen O’Grady Drama classes each week, throughout 22 countries. Malta is the 23rd country to benefit from the award-winning programme which creates lessons around the philosophy that “a lesson learned through fun will never be forgotten.”

“Because the Helen O’Grady Academy programme does not involve examinations or any additional pressures, there can be no failures – only a motivating sense of achievement. This is exactly the kind of attitude supported by the Foundation,” said Gemma Mifsud Bonnici, Chairperson of the Vodafone Malta Foundation. “We hope other schools would follow the example of Saint Benedict’s College and incorporate this drama course into their yearly syllabus.”
