A 41-year-old Georgian was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges of evading paying customs duty and Value Added Tax.

Murman Tisiteladze was accused before Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera on Saturday. The prosecution was led by Inspector Ian Abdilla.

In another case, James Briffa, 30, was accused of threatening and attacking members of the police force at the St Julian’s police station. He admitted to the charges and was fined Lm250 (e580).

On Saturday, Joseph Mifsud, 53, of Qrendi, was accused of trying to damage a car on Christmas night, which crime did not take place because of something independent of the accused’s volition. He was also accused of annoying people and was remanded in custody. Inspector Johann Fenech prosecuted.

A 17-year-old Ethiopian, resident in Fgura, was accused of threatening and attacking police at Hal Far on 25 January, of causing serious injuries to one person and slight injuries to two others, and of breaching the peace. He was remanded in custody. Inspector Johann Fenech prosecuted.
