Mosta returned to winning form beating Mellieha with the odd goal in three. Mosta built their victory on their first half superiority, which they transformed into a two-goal lead.

Their goals were scored in a three-minute spell, with their newcomer Kalenga scoring his first goal on his debut with Mosta. Molzahn had to make some changes in his line up as Antonio Saliba and Massimo Grima were suspended and Gilbert Martin is suspended by the club. Twenty-nine year-old Ndayi Kalenga from Congo was making his first appearance for Mosta, with the striker taking Ginev’s place as a foreigner, with the latter failing to make an impact.

Mosta were the better team especially in the first part of the match. They scored the goals that mattered and missed some other chances that could have easily closed the game.

Elton Vella played a very good game and was the most menacing player in attack. He created the first danger testing goalkeeper Gauci who saved with some difficulty.

On 29 minutes Mosta took the lead when Kalenga left his mark to head home a Steve Borg cross from the right. Three minutes later Mosta doubled the score when Chris Pace passed towards Elton Vella whose first timer gave Gauci no chance to save.

The same Elton Vella went close again on 36 minutes and just before the break with his shots going slightly wide.

On the resumption Mosta were again dangerous with Carlos Camenzuli, Chris Pace and Elton Vella all missing the target from ideal positions. Mosta paid dearly for these misses as Mellieha punished them in their real first danger.

Wayne Borg St. John caught the Mosta defence napping and he slid the ball past Debono to put Mellieha back in the game.

Two minutes later Mellieha received a blow when Borg St. John limped off injured. The match was now very balanced as Mosta lost all their confidence and composure with Mellieha doing their best to save the match. Calabretta was the side’s most inspired player but he failed to capitalize on a couple of favourable chances.

Mosta defended calmly till the final whistle with their goalkeeper Debono rarely tested by the Mellieha forwards.
