A 49-year-old man from Senglea is in critical condition after he lost control of his car and crashed into a wall at around 5.30pm on Sunday, the police said yesterday.
The police were informed that there was a damaged car in Triq iz-Zewg Mini in Senglea. However, when they arrived on site, the driver was nowhere to be seen and the car burst into flames.
The police were given a description of the driver but could not find him. However, later on in the evening they were informed by Mater Dei hospital authorities that a 49-year-old man from Vittoriosa, who was the driver, had been admitted in critical condition.
Duty Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani appointed several experts to help her in an inquiry.
