The powerboat P1 world championship race, known as the Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea is this year being held between 6 and 8 June.

It will be third event of the championship to be held in seven host cities. The opening race of the season is to be held between 9 and 11 May in Italy, at a venue still to be announced. The championship will come to an end on 23, 24 and 25 October with the Middle East Grand Prix, at a venue, still to be confirmed.

The Management of Powerboat P1 is expecting between 24 and 28 boats to take part in this year’s championship, a significant increase over the past year, when 19 boats took part, according to Robert Wicks, Sales and Marketing Manager Director.

Planned to coincide with the P1 event will be the Boat Show, this year being moved from Ta’ Qali to the Valletta Gateway Terminal (VGT). The latter is combining with the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre (MFCC) to organise this Boat Show concurrently with the Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea. The location is situated within the Grand Harbour with vast areas of space for ‘dry’ and on-water exhibits. The Boat Show will be held between 6 and 10 June.

The Maltese Grand Prix of the Seas is expected to be shown on TV screens in 180 countries worldwide with an estimated audience of more than 100 million viewers.
