In addition to the team event, Badminton Malta’s seasonal competitive calendar includes also an individual competition. Designated as the H2Only Individual League, this event is being played regularly on Wednesday evenings at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

The participants have been graded, according to their standard of play, into eight separate divisions – five for Singles and three for Doubles.

Six players are contesting the first division title. With the greater part of the fixtures now having been completed, the event turned out to be a three-horse race between three separate players coming from three different clubs.

Defending champion Boris Lalov (Msida Arrows BC), Stefan Salomone (B’Kara BC) and Kenneth Vella (Pawla Wolves Assikura) are tied with 14 points each.

Both Lalov and Salomone still enjoy an unbeaten status after having accrued five wins and four draws from their nine matches so far.

On his part, Vella has now ended his commitments with five wins, four draws and a single defeat on his record.

The remaining fixture for Lalov and Salomone pits them both against the Indian player Yogesh Mistry, who is on the books of Pawla Wolves.

In the overall standings, Mistry is on an equal footing with Aldo Polidano (B’Kara BC) with 4 points apiece. The former has won two and lost four of the six matches played so far. On his part, Polidano has won two and lost six of his eight fixtures.

B’Kara’s Cuban player, Magdiel Mark Mesa, lies at the wrong end of the table; he still has to garner his first points after the seven matches played so far.
