Malta Independent Thursday, 31 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A 32-year-old man was yesterday held by another man until police arrived on the scene after he was allegedly caught stealing from a car in St Publius Street, Floriana.

The police said they were informed by an anonymous caller that someone had stolen goods from cars in this street.

Police said preliminary investigations showed that the 32-year-old man had allegedly stolen a telephone apparatus from a parked car and an owner of one of the parked vehicles managed to make a civilian arrest and hold him until the police arrived.

The police are holding the man to help them with their investigations.

Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, police officials who were on the beat at City Gate, Valletta, were informed that someone was allegedly selling pirate DVDs. The officials immediately investigated the allegations and found a 25-year-old man from Msida who was in possession of 1,789 DVDs which are alleged to be fake.

Investigations in both cases, which are being carried out by Valletta district police officials, are still under way.
