Major Ivan Consiglio, the Armed Forces of Malta Public Information Officer, filed a judicial protest yesterday within the First Hall of Civil Court claiming that he was denied a promotion.

In the protest signed by lawyer Antoine Naudi, Major Consiglio held that three officers were made Lieutenant Colonels last November in spite of being his juniors in age and seniority. He claimed that he had wider military experience, more qualifications and competency than the three newly-promoted lieutenant colonels.

Major Consiglio, who claimed that he has dedicated a good part of his life at the service of the AFM and the good of the country, held that the authorities had abused their administrative powers by not granting him a promotion. He also pointed out that the authorities’ actions were prejudicing his mental and physical health.

In spite of several actions he had undertaken in order to present his complaints, the major said, the situation has not changed.

He was afraid, he said, that he might be ignored once more as promotions were expected to be given in the near future.

To this end, he asked the authorities to remedy to the situation by retroactively promoting and compensating him.

The protest was filed against the Prime Minister and the Commander in Chief of the AFM.
