The Dance Awards 2008 is a dance competition with a total of four categories:
(1) Jazz, Contemporary, Classical, Tap and Musical Theatre
(2) Ethnic – Latin, Flamenco, Indian, Irish etc
(3) Hip-hop, Locking, Break Dance
(4) The Choreographic Awards.
It is taking place at Queen’s Hall Cranbrook, Kent, UK on 12 July and is open to:
Solo artists and groups, community groups and schools.
To enter categories 1 to 3 you need to send your submission by 29 February either as a DVD, video tape or even as a youtube link.
To enter category 4 you need to use the given poem and paintings as your inspiration, then as with the other categories, send in your submission.
The fees are as follows: Solo entries – £6.00
Group entries - £5.00 per member
Choreographic awards - £25.00
Each entry will be judged on stage presence, originality, technicality, style and artistry.
Choreography will be evaluated on creativity, imagination, movement vocabulary, use of space, staging and performance. Due to the diverse dance styles possibly submitted, we need to have a constant element with which to evaluate your entries.
In all other categories, style, technique and performance are all important judging criteria.
If you are a choreographer, you can have a dance group perform your piece and if you are a dance group, you can hire a choreographer to create a piece
Once all the entries are received there will be a shortlisting process and all the participants will be notified. If you are not short listed, your cheque will be returned.
Video/DVD will only be returned if the postage is paid.
