Simon Gerada is close to agreeing a new deal with the Malta Table-Tennis Association.

Earlier this month, Gerada had told The Malta Independent that he was considering his future as a Malta player adding that he would like to end his career where he had started it, that is, as the number one in Australia.

Since then, as had also been reported in The Malta Independent, discussions have been ongoing with the Malta Table Tennis Association and it is with pleasure that it can now be reported that the two sides are close to reaching a new agreement.

Gerada says that after these discussions with president Joe Borg Cardona, he hopes to continue his relationship with the MTTA. However, he says he is still waiting for a reply as to whether the association is ready to accept his terms.

Gerada is optimistic that a new deal will be in place soon, possibly by the start of next week. He said that things are looking good and he expects to be in the Malta team playing in next year’s Games for European Small States in Cyprus.

Gerada also told The Malta Independent that he had beaten young Australian Trent Carter, a top 16 junior in the world in a friendly match on 24 January. “I still have a lot to offer to Maltese table-tennis,” he said.
