What is the use of having a state-of-the-art hospital, with polished marble floors and shiny walls, if a seven-year-old is kept waiting for six hours to have an X-Ray taken?

At 7.30 pm on Tuesday my wife took our seven-year-old daughter for an X-Ray because we thought that she might have broken or sprained a finger. We understand that the most serious cases are treated first, but the large number of people who arrived hours later and were admitted before and discharged within minutes goes to show that their situation wasn’t any more serious than our daughter’s at all. Bad management, I wonder?

What is the use of having a modern hospital with the latest equipment and technology when patients have to wait for six hours to be seen by a doctor?

And ours was not the only case. Some people claimed that on the same day, they had waited for nine hours before being admitted to the Emergency Department, and who am I not to believe them?

If the government thinks that citizens are impressed by marble floors and top-notch furniture, then something, somewhere went awry, or someone must have got it all wrong.

What we expect is a good service. The longest I ever waited at the St Luke’s Hospital Emergency Department was four hours. Should I now believe that the government got it all wrong? That more money should have been spent on human resources rather than on the building itself?
