From Mr P. Bugeja

Reference is made to a letter from Robert W. Ciantar, a councillor of St Paul’s Bay local council (TMIS, 27 January).

The contents of his letter makes all the residents wonder where Mr Ciantar was for the last three years, as he seldom took part in council meetings.

Mr Ciantar forgets that he abducted all responsibilities in order to be comfortable and all he has done in these last three years is nothing but criticise from a well-cushioned armchair.

He is very well aware that the work was carried out in what is known as the Gallarija in Bay Square built in 1997, and that no reports of accidents have ever been filed. So why does he want to spend thousands of euros of residents’ money just on bollards, ignoring all the other needs in the locality?

The residents must note that this subject has been discussed several times in council meetings in the presence of Mr Ciantar and on each occasion he was reminded that there is a scheduled programme of work one has to follow that are more of a priority. One has to appreciate that we have one contractor assigned to the council who has a full programme of work, which he always follows and carries out.

Does Mr Ciantar want to stop all work in the centre of town as well as work on pavements in Bugibba / Qawra to place bollards in Bay Square? Are the bollards that important for the locals to spend so many thousands of euros? Don’t we have any other priorities?

Local elections are very near and Mr Ciantar seems to have woken up.

Mr Ciantar knows the little things he said in the council meeting; just to remind him, he asked for U bends in front of his home, cleaning of culverts next to his residence, requests which have been acceded to… plus the famous bollards.

As he is well aware, I retired from all businesses in Bugibba quite a few years ago. I am not writing this letter with the intention of winning votes, as I am not contesting the local elections!

This is all the truth so that all voters know the facts.
