I refer to Daphne Caruana Galizia’s “opinion” piece (TMIS, 27 January). This was not at all original, as this line of reasoning has been repeated for the last 10 years or more ad nauseam, and I am convinced that the Malta Labour Party will win the next election hands down and possibly with a strong majority.

In my opinion, back in 2003, the MLP and their sympathisers were in the same situation that the PN and its supporters are in now. They knew that they were going to lose the election and they looked very pathetic sometimes. This is the situation that the PN is in now; they know they will lose the election and that they deserve to be on the Opposition benches for at least 10 years, but will do whatever they can to prevent this from happening.

Daphne’s bottom line is, that although it is true that the PN has failed in many aspects, we should not give Labour a chance because we would starve to death, as they do not know how to govern. This way of thinking is very typical of a die-hard Nationalist who detests anything that is not PN. This so-called columnist tries very hard to portray an image of an independent minded writer, but the truth is that she is a very biased PN supporter.

It would be far more beneficial if we hear and read about ideas and suggestions on how to continue to develop our country and improve our quality of life instead of writing week after week against Labour or the leader of the MLP. Unfortunately, in Malta we have quite a few similar columnists who are using ample space on the media to repeat and repeat that Malta should never vote Labour especially with its current leader.

Personally, I do believe that leaders should not remain in power as long as Dr Sant has, especially if not successful. However, this does not justify in any way keeping the old and conservative Nationalist Party in government forever, unless we are in favour of a dictatorship.

A change in government does not mean that all our problems will be solved and that all will be perfect, but it would be both beneficial for the PN and for Malta in general.
