From Mr A. Cassola MP

I refer to Nancy Kampschuur’s letter regarding the destruction of the former Mistra Village Complex in Xemxija, St Paul ‘s Bay (TMIS, 6 January).

Ms Kampschuur is rightly shocked by the proposed redevelopment project. I agree with her that as “the owner of a property in Katerina Vitale Street, I wonder why the residents have not been consulted”.

Ms Kampschuur should note however, that Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has raised awareness among the residents regarding the proposed project and has presented an AD sponsored petition to the EU authorities. Over 500 residents in the area have, to date, signed the petition.

Moreover, I am pleased to inform Ms Kampschuur that following representations made by Alternattiva Demokratika on behalf of the residents, the European Commission has formally registered a complaint against the government of Malta and initiated an investigation into the proposed Mistra Village redevelopment.
