Malta Independent Monday, 4 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The event started off with Holy Mass concelebrated by Archbishop Paul Cremona OP with the College of Parish Priests at the Mosta parish church. Prime Minister and Mrs Lawrence Gonzi attended the mass.

In his homily, Mgr Cremona urged for the protection of life from conception until its natural end. He also called for the protection of life through rights besides laws.

Following mass, a march was staged from the Mosta Dome to the Monument of the Unborn Child which lies between Mosta and Naxxar. The march was accompanied by Boy Scouts, band clubs and the Association of Local Councils. Archbishop Cremona also took part in the march, as did Justice Minister Tonio Borg and his shadow counterpart Dr Anglu Farrugia. The Gift of Life Foundation, the Cana Movement and the Health Promotion Department attended the march.

A boy knelled a bell for nine times in remembrance of the nine-month gestation period after which a married couple who are parents to a child and expecting another one delivered a speech regarding values and the unborn child, who is their hope for the future.

Health Promotion Department director Dr Charmaine Gauci, Dr Borg and Dr Farrugia delivered a speech. The road between Mosta and Naxxar was restricted access and parking from early in the morning.
