Naxxar-Mgarr 2-1

Naxxar had a great start as they broke the deadlock after just four minutes through a low shot by Emanuel Cutajar following a good move between Mark Deguara and Kevin Fenech.

Mgarr came back strongly and were very close through Matthew Muscat who shot wide infront of goal whereas on another occasion a free-kick taken by Malcolm Bugeja was cleared off the line by Adrian Fenech.

Mgarr created another opportunity through Matthew Muscat with Naxxar replying through a shot by Kevin Naudi which went just wide.

Mgarr’s pressure paid off in the 45th minute as they made it one-all when Chris Abela’s shot was deflected by Naxxar’s central defender Bernard Farrugia for an own-goal.

Early on in the second-half Mgarr went close through Matthew Muscat and Malcolm Bugeja and on another occasion a shot by James Borg was cleared off the line by Naxxar’s central defender Jean Pierre Zahra.

Naxxar were denied by Kevin Ellul off attempts by Keven Fenech but they took the lead on 80 minutes through Jean Pierre Zahra following a free-kick taken by Kevin Fenech.

Four minutes later Naxxar were unlucky to hit the post through Andy Bartolo with Mgarr replying late in the match through Matthew Gauci.

At the end of the match Naxxar’s midfield player Kevin Fenech was sent off for making offensive remarks towards an Mgarr player.

Lija-Sirens 4-0

Lija wasted a clear goal scoring opportunity after just four minutes through Lydon Cilia and later on Alan Medati miskicked the ball in front of goal following a good move by Cilia.

At the other end Sirens were denied by Luke Bonnici off a Mark Sciberras effort with Lija responding through Lydon Cilia whose point-blank shot was well saved by Buttigieg.

Lija opened the score in the 35th minute through Lydon Cilia after he had dribbled the Sirens? keeper and just before the break a shot by Alan Medati was well saved by Buttigieg.

Two minutes after the change of ends Lija increased their lead through Beppe Antignolo and in the 50th minute Alan Medati made it 3-0 with an angled shot.

Lija increased further their lead on 66 minutes as Lydon Cilia squared the ball for Beppe Antignolo to hit home past Buttigieg for the Athletic’s fourth and final goal. Sirens? late response produced a shot by Ryan Theuma which was saved with difficulty by Lija’s substitute keeper Josuel Caruana and a volley by Kenneth Zammit which finished just high over the bar.
