Malta’s Darren Vella and Clive Farrugia are occupying second place after the first day of competition in the skeet competition being organised at Bidnija by the Malta Shooting Sports Federation on the occasion of their 100th anniversary.

Giovanni Di Bari of Italy was first on 68, while Vella hit 67 clays, the same as Luigi Ronco of Italy, and another Maltese shooter, Clive Farrugia. Fifth was Andrea Sacchetti of Italy on 65 and sixth Alex Mattione, also of Italy on 64.

Other shooters from Wales, England and Georgia are taking part in the event.

It continues today with the final 50 clays at 3pm.

The Double Trap competition, held last Sunday, saw local hero William Chetcuti triumphant. The Trap competition starts on Friday at the Birzebbuga Range and continues on Saturday and Sunday at Bidnija.

The trap finals on Sunday should start at 1pm.
