Mark Miller's boys yesterday failed to produce a positive result as he desired. At the end, after suffering a lot of pressure, they collapsed to four goals scored in the final 30 minutes.

It was a match which the Welsh, now favourites to win the Group, dominated from start to finish. They certainly deserved their win as they produced the best football and created the best chances.

It was partly a credit to the local boys that Wales failed to score in the opening 60 minutes, but it was also due to the Welsh strikers' failure to convert the chances which came their way till then.

When they finally broke the ice on the 60th minute, there was no stopping them as Malta collapsed and suffered three further goals in the final 11 minutes.

Miller had Luke Woods and Andrei Agius injured while Edmond Agius was suspended. Moreover, he included goalie Miguel Montfort, City defender Steve Bezzina and City striker Ian Zammit in his starting line-up.

It was Wales who created the first chances with a dangerous Jacobson cross-shot ending just wide. On 25 minutes, Samuel Vokes' header went over as did a Shaun Macdonald shot a few minutes later.

Malta's reply arrived on 37 minutes with an Ian Zammit effort just missing the post.

With the scoresheet still blank at the interval, there was some hope that Malta might manage to pull off a positive result, but the Welsh finally took the lead on the 60th minute, Chedwyn Evans heading home past a beaten Montfort.

Substitute Simon Church scored the second on the 79th minute, Jack Collison got the third after receiving the ball from Darcy Blake and Chedwyn Evans sealed the issue with a penalty conversion in stoppage time.
