Such a proposal will mean an added burden to many families in terms of books and uniforms that need to be bought, not to mention the cost of transport. An extra year of schooling would mean that students will have to be supported by their families for an extra year. Education Minister Louis Galea and the Malta Union of Teachers were both right in rejecting such a proposal. It will be a wasted year.

This seems to be the only proposal that the Malta Labour Party has come up with after 10 years in opposition. It is easy to say that the MLP did not use its time well, and apparently was desperate to come up with something. They did without studying the consequences of their action, and ultimately they shot themselves in the foot.

The Labour Party says that it has changed. But it has not. It is still a party that cannot be charged with the running of the country.
