Planting Of trees at Maghtab

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

From Mr M. Mifsud Bonnici

The article “EUR30,000 donation to plant trees in Maghtab” states that this money, donated by HSBC, will cover the cost of 2000 trees (TMIS, 27 January). The trees are to be planted on the infamous rubbish dump in a bid to make this eyesore more acceptable.

As part of Kaccaturi San Ubertu’s campaign to make Malta greener, we urge our members to plant indigenous trees on the land they use for hunting.

This initiative has so far resulted in the planting of over 1,300 trees, mainly olive and pine.

All costs and care of these trees is carried out by our members under the expert advice of some of our members who are qualified in this field.

So far this project has cost our members around EUR9084 (Lm3,900). Using the calculations made on the Maghtab HSBC donation, our members would have been able to use these funds to plant 4293 trees. We commend HSBC and other institutions for their financial contributions towards a greener Malta and would greatly appreciate, considering our achievements, their including our association as their beneficiaries as well.

Mark Mifsud Bonnici.
