Labour’s Proposal for disabled people

Malta Independent Monday, 11 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

We agree with the National Commission Persons with Disability (KNPD) and the Maltese Council Of Disabled Persons (MCODP) in their concern for the proposal made by the Malta Labour Party to convert part of St Luke’s Hospital for people with a disability who do not have the necessary support from family members.

We welcome the explanatory statement made by the Malta Labour Party’s spokesperson for Social Solidarity, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, to the effect that the modification will take the form of residential units. Furthermore, she mentioned that these small units will be like the other residential houses that we already have in the community.

So we ask, why does it have to be at St Luke’s? Is it so impossible to find other locations in the community where to open these houses?
