A new Labour government would give priority to environmental education, not only in the light of the continuous updating of the national curriculum, but in the best interest of the country’s environmental management, Joe Brincat, MLP main spokesperson for the environment and national heritage, and Roderick Galdes, spokesperson, said.

There was an emphasis on this in the MLP plan for a new beginning, drawn up after extensive consultations with people involved in the sectors of the environment and education.

Labour intends to give every incentive to local councils to raise a public awareness on the matter. The councils could be a main agent which would help to achieve and implement a national policy on environmental education, the spokespersons said.

Labour would work on how to improve teaching opportunities about the environment in the post secondary sector and at university. The young had to be among the main catalysts for an improvement of the country’s environment.
