The St. Paul Fencing Club junior team is gearing up to participate in the International Ludwig Meider Open which will soon take place in Ingolstadt, Bavaria
This important competition on the Bavarian calendar is held over a weekend and comprises individual events in all three fencing disciplines.
The SPFC squad will participate in foil, epee as well as sabre which is the newest ‘weapon?to be introduced at the club. The group led by Juan Formosa and Ivan Vassallo includes Kurt Mifsud, Paul Borg (national U/17 foil champion), Andre Zahra, Chris Busuttil and Pierre Bianchi, who is the current national champion and ‘Malta Open?champion at foil.
All the youngsters have had an encouraging start to season 2007/2008 and are now looking forward to more positive results in the most competitive part of the fencing season ?January to June each year.
Meanwhile, Susan Ronald from SPFC women’s team participated in the Slough Open 2008 as part of her international training programme. Results of the first SPFC national ranking competition were as follows:
