Following the success of the recent Malta indoor rowing championships on Concept 2 rowing machines some local athletes took part in the English indoor rowing championships at the impressive velodrome in Manchester.
The Manchester Velodrome is the National Cycling Centre, Britain’s primary indoor Olympic cycle track and widely regarded as one of the world’s finest and fastest board tracks.
In this impressive arena David Gasan Malta’s current Men’s open Indoor rowing champion, came a creditable 10th with a time of 6.39.7 seconds in the 2000 meter Men’s open. The event was won by Nik Fleming the current world record holder.
In the under 16 event, James Dimech also achieved 10th place with a 7.30.2 time
Ken Lake came 6th with 6.55.8 on the Men’s over 50s
The next Malta indoor rowing event is scheduled for 27 September 2008 organised by Lakes fitness centre. A foreign contingent of rowers are expected to enter in this ever growing sport.
