On Saturday Marsa C.C took on Melita C.C in their last game of the Globalair Winter League. The Marsa team were looking to win the league with this game.

Melita won the toss and elected to bat. Joy Ghooseroy and Sagar Krishna opened the batting. Ghooseroy was caught and bowled on the last ball of the first over for four runs. Krishna went on to retire with 38 runs including two fours. Justin Brooke played the innings of the day retiring and then returning to be caught on the last ball of the innings. He scored 59 runs from 34 balls including nine fours.

Tim Edwards playing in his first game batted well and after surviving a stumping appeal went on to make 20 runs, Mike O’Meara scored 13 runs from 15 balls. Aided with 17 extras totalled a healthy score of 153 runs. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco and John Grima were the main wicket takers taking two wickets each.

Needing 154 runs to win the league, Marsa had a flying start with Mike Caruana scoring 19 runs from eight balls including three fours, before being caught by Mike O’Meara with the catch of the day.

O’Meara had to run three metres and dived forward to take the catch. Ronnie Sacco scored ten runs before hitting a ball straight to a fielder. John Grima scored ten runs.

Javed Shah scored an impressive 29 runs from 22 balls including three fours. Marsa were aided by 16 extras. It was not enough. Marsa only totlaled a mere 84 runs.

Sagar Krishna and Tony Slater were the main wicket takers taking two wickets each. Melita won their first game of the tournament and earned nine points while Marsa managed one point.

The Globalair Winter league will be decided this week when Melita play Krishna Pen and Paper. If Melita win this week Marsa will win the league, if not then Krishna will have won back to back competitions. The game will start at 1pm.

A special mention is to be made for three umpires from England, Neville Abberley, David Rawlinson and Alan Clark who umpired over the past three weeks.

The nursery/academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
