Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit yesterday distributed warrants to 36 new architects, reflecting that the role of the architect was not today solely one of planning, designing and supervising construction works.

They also had the responsibility of designing to be compatible with the environment, the climate and the country’s style of architecture, he said.

The government’s investment in education, Mr Zammit added, was achieving the desired results – in the last seven years, 209 warrants had been distributed, compared to the total number of 589 architects warranted since 1937.
