The Malta Pool Association will be organising the European Eight-ball Pool Championships starting today at the Dolmen Hotel in Bugibba. The event will come to an end on Friday.

Nine countries will be competing in five different categories – Men A Teams, Men B Teams, Ladies, Juniors Under 18 and Under 21s.

No less than 240 players will be in Malta to represent their countries and also challenge for the European singles titles.

Countries represented in this event are Malta, England, Channel Islands, Belgium, N. Ireland, Wales, France, Scotland and Republic of Ireland.

Maslta is represented in all the categories with the following players:

Men Team A: Clayton Attard, Clint Azzopardi, Antoine Cuschieri, Mario Cutajar, Stephen Mangion, Ivan Rizzo.

Men Team B: Mario Brincat, Christ Mills, Adrian Camilleri, Ray Caruana, Miguel Falzon, Marius Gatt.

Juniors U-18s: Lothar Mallia, Darren Schembri, Maverick Zammit, Malcolm Azzopardi, Matthias Mallia, Wedley Zammit.

Under 21s: Duncan Pisani, Joseph Casha, Robert Fenech, Philip Coleiro, Jurgen Attard, Matthew Ferriggi.

Ladies: Karen Grech, Charmaine Farrugia, Donna Bugeja, Heather Brincat, Iris Cremona, Amanda Grima.

More Maltese players will be taking part in the individuals’ category.

In the men’s sector, there will be Kevin Mercieca, Christ Tabone, Philip Ciantar, Mario Vassallo, Iro Vella, Clayton Ciscaldi, Jesmond Schembri and Joseph Tabone.

Emerson Camilleri, Scott Muscat, Sasha Gauci, Lyden Debono, Redent Camilleri and Ryan Pisani will be in the U-18 category while Corinne Falzon is taking part in the ladies category.

In the wheelchairs?category Malta will be represented by Joe Cardona, Brian Borg and Ronald Galea.

The draws were to be held yesterday evening.

Play gets under way today with the opening round of the ladies’ competitions.

The men’s competitions are scheduled to start tomorrow.

Admission in the playing hall is free of charge.
