The idea of the European Young Journalist Award is to communicate the success of European enlargement. Enlargement has proven to be one of the greatest achievements of the European Union. Young editors in the 27 states, ages between 17-35 are asked to submit an article on the issue of EU enlargement which has been published during the period of November 2007 until March 2008. Participants should be active editors of school or student print and online publications, freelancers, trainees working for print or online publications.

A number of 35 winners will be invited on a trip through the Balkans. This is the area in Europe where the next enlargement steps will probably take place. Winners will be invited to sight-seeing tours through these very special sites of European history.
