On Saturday the Globalair Winter league came to an enthralling end with Melita C.C pushing Krishna Pen & Paper C.C to their limits.

Melita won the toss and elected to bat. Sagar Krishna and Mike O’Meara opened the batting. Both batsmen retired after facing 30 balls scoring 25 runs and 12 runs respectively. The outfield was very slow due to the overnight rains.

Justin Brooke was run out for eight runs. Sunny Krishna 24 runs from 21 balls including one massive six. Joy Ghoseroy was also run out for six runs and did not help the Melita cause.

David Mansfield scored two runs before being bowled. Will Nicholls and Tony Slater remained not out at the end of the innings with two runs and seven runs respectively. Aided with 24 extras, Melita totalled 110 runs. For Krishna Nowell Khosla and Sam Dhandapani took a wicket each being the only wicket takers.

Krishna were only 111 runs away from winning the league and they started off well with Nowell Khosla retiring with 33 runs including two fours. Mark G.Sacco scored seventeen runs before being bowled.

With these two batsmen back in the pavilion and 73 runs on the board the game looked set for a very easy win. Justin Brooke and Tony Slater had other ideas ripping through the middle order batsmen.

Brooke took three wickets while Slater took two. Three ducks were scored and a three, Faraaz Bhatti managed to score ten runs before being run out brilliantly by a direct hit from Sunny Krishna.

The game was left in the hands of Pierre Naudi and Kevin Krishna needing 11 runs of the last two overs which became five runs of the last over.

Krishna could have been easily run out of the second ball of the last over but the bowler picked up the ball and threw hard at the wickets which not only did he miss but the batsmen managed to run an extra run. The batsmen won the game with two balls to spare.

Krishna won the game and the league. Well done Krishna.

Next Saturday, there may be a game against the HMS Westminister but as yet not confirmed. If not, a friendly starting at 11.30am will take place.

In the morning the nursery/academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am
