A new retail outlet will be opening at Malta International Airport’s Non-Schengen Area on 1 May. This was announced by MIA’s CEO Julian Jaeger after signing the agreement with Travel Stores, the consortium that will be running the multi-service shop.
This will be the second retail outlet in the new area dedicated for non-Schengen flights and it is an innovative concept for Malta International Airport as it will incorporate five different product ranges – Food and Beverage, Skincare, Delicatessen, a Bookshop and Souvenirs. The new commercial area will occupy a total of 191sqm of floor space and was awarded after a public call for tender.
Travel Stores Co. Ltd is a consortium made up exclusively of Maltese companies – Wands Limited, Salvo Grima Group, Miller Distributors and RJC Caterers Ltd, who individually operate similar activities at MIA through long-established businesses. The experience and know-how of retailing at the air terminal will no doubt ensure prospects of a successful venture.
The new Non-Schengen Area will be fully operational on 28 March when MIA is expected to adopt the Schengen procedures. The Nuance Group already has an outlet in this area and after the opening of Travel Store, it is envisaged that an additional two outlets will open later on this year.
