The government wanted everyone to succeed in education, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said when inaugurating a refurbished Siggiewi primary school, which has almost been rebuilt, with a community hall, and sports and other facilities, at a cost of e2.3 million.

The hall cost about e600,000 and the school, which takes some 500 students, had a storey added to it.

State schools, as centres in the community, need to offer opportunities to everyone because it is never too late to learn, especially in a society relying on knowledge, the Prime Minister said. All computers in state schools are to be replaced shortly, and added to, so that there will be a computer for every four students, putting Malta at the forefront in this sector.

Dr Gonzi said there was an important link between education and the economy, work and the quality of life. The more they invested in education and obtained positive results the more they would be developing the economy and creating wealth.

Students today had more opportunities for study because the government had opened and expanded the MCAST, developed post secondary institutions such as the higher secondary, the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Junior College and the development at the university.
