Of all the political stupidities uttered by Dr Lawrence Gonzi, in my view the one that takes the cake is when he said, without laughing this time, that the ones who will benefit from Labour’s pledge to cut by half the surcharge on water and electricity bills “will be those who have a swimming pool”!!!

Had I not heard it coming straight from the horse’s mouth, and heard it from someone else, I would have believed that they were trying to pull my leg! Is it possible that a leader of a political party, who has been a Prime Minister for around four years, would ridicule his own credibility in such a stupid manner?

Or was Dr Gonzi advised to invent this by his campaign strategists? Even if this was the case, he should have realised that such a stupid statement would undermine greatly all his criticism about Labour’s pledges to the people.

This was another glaring sign of growing electoral panic which has gripped Gonzi PN. The more Dr Gonzi comes out with such unbelievable stories, the more his chances of returning to Castille fade away.
