Sant In Gozo and Buskett

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Labour leader Alfred Sant toured Gozo yesterday morning.

In Victoria he visited the two band clubs and bought something from a bazaar in aid of the Eden Foundation. He also received a birthday present some days in advance.

In short speeches, Dr Sant said his party has many plans for Gozo once it is in government.

In the afternoon, Dr Sant, back in Malta, toured Buskett and was shown evidence of massive neglect in the area. Buskett suffers mostly, Dr Sant said, from soil loss, which is being made much worse when rubble walls are not repaired.

In reply a Rural Affairs Ministry statement said Dr Sant is not well informed of what is being done in the area. Work the ministry intended to do was blocked by Mepa, which claimed the projected work could damage the eco-system. Yet the same people from Mepa who had blocked the work were showing Dr Sant around and pointing out the “neglect”.
