Daphne’s Faulty logic

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr R. Vassallo

Daphne did well in her last article to test the idea of a PN-AD coalition. One had no right to assume, she argues, that AD would be that hypothetical third party coalition candidate. What about AN and Imperium Europa she correctly asks.

Inserting either of these two names instead of AD would highlight the undesirability of some results. This conclusion may also be correct if not quite supported by the odds.

Daphne fails to apply the same test to the prospect of single party rule. What if she inserted the name of the leader she loves to hate, in the blank box for Prime Minister? Little does she realise that her contributions serve to raise the odds in that direction. Would she prefer untrammelled MLP rule to an MLP-AD coalition, or even a PN-AD one. You never know. If her ferocious attacks on the little Green Party were to bear fruit she stands to be the greatest loser. She may not be fooling voters with her scaremongering campaign, as much as she is fooling herself.
