Losing Coalition

From Mr J. Tabone

Over the past years, Alternattiva Demokratika has been trying to attract to its fold people who, in the past, voted for the Nationalist Party. A look at the list of candidates shows that there is no Wenzu Mintoff or Toni Abela anymore.

Alternattiva Demokratika can easily form a coalition with the Nationalist Party. Both parties will be in Opposition. If the polls are correct, the Nationalist Party will lose the next election. If Alternattiva Demokratika manages to obtain one seat, the Nationalist Party will have even less seats. The results of the last elections for the European Parliament confirm this. Had Alternattiva Demokratika obtained more number one preference votes, the result would have been a 3-1-1 situation and not a 2-1-2 outcome!

If Alternattiva Demokratika wanted to be the decisive factor between the two main parties, it should have tried to attract the votes away from both parties, rather than from the losing party.
