Labour’s pronouncement that the trade school era is over is indeed welcome news. At last Labour had to admit that what the PN government did was right.

Labour set up these schools for the unmotivated and based these on hands-on learning with no or very little academic and theoretical background. It was fallacious even in the 1970s to prepare our children for the world of work knowing only how to do basic things but not understanding why they are done in that manner.

Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici led the PN criticism of these schools and proposed an alternative that would suit these youngsters in preparation for the ever evolving world of work.

Even the students felt that these schools would get them nowhere and, over the years, there was a steady decline in applications until these schools died a natural death. That’s education under Labour.
