Tarxien R. 4

Marsa 0

Tarxien assured themselves of the three points at stake and the sole leadership, with second half goals that sent Marsa slumping to another defeat.

Tarxien were the dominant force throughout the match as Marsa never came to grips with their opponents in a one way traffic affair.

Tarxien dominated the first half and almost took the lead after only three minutes when John Paul Muscat hit the side netting. Starngely enough Tarxien had to wait till the half hour mark to test Spiteri again.

Angus Buhagiar powered his way inside the area but Rodrick Spiteri dived to save and from the rebound the same Spiteri denied John Paul Muscat of a certain goal. Just before the break Malcolm Buttigieg’s effort sailed over the bar.

On the resumption of play Tarxien immediately took the lead when from a John Paul Muscat, Andrew Decesare managed to squeeze the ball home from close range.

Tarxien kept the pace in search for more goals with Angus Buhagiar blasting over the bar from the edge of the area.

On the hour Tarxien put their minds at rest when the Marsa goalkeeper fumbled a harmless cross from the left and substitute Matthew Borg I easily slotted home. The Marsa goalkeeper made amends some minutes later when he stretched to save a Matthew Borg dipper, and from the rebound he again denied the ex-Melita player with another fine save.

Twelve minutes from time another substitute Omar Grech missed a sitter in front of goal. Ten minutes from time Tarxien increased their lead when Angus Buhagiar beat Spiteri with a precise shot that finished in the corner of the net. Mathhew Borg could have added another one minutes later but Spiteri saved, but Matthew Borg obtained his brace on 85 minutes when he shot home from close range a good move by Angus Buhagiar.
