Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Malta teams for the forthcoming European Championship to be held in Glasgow between 29 March and 10 April have been selected.

Joe Casha, Aaron Busuttil, Thurston Grixti and Matthias Mallia will be representing Malta in the Under 19 competition.

The association is sending two Masters teams. Team 1 comprises Frans Mintoff and Tony Mifsud. Team 2 is composed of Tony Brincat and Joe O'Brien.

The men's team will comprise Alex Borg, Simon Zammit and Duncan Bezzina.

Paul Galea will be head of delegation and will also act as referee during the championships.

The Malta Billiards and Snooker Association is paying all expenses for the men's team as well as that of the delegate/referee while it is also doing its best to minimise the expenses of the Under 19 and Masters teams' players.

Meanwhile, three local competitions have come to an end.

Emmanuel Mallia of MLP Fgura beat Joe Agius of St Joseph BC, Ghaxaq, 5-2 to win the second division title. The first division final was won by Mark Saffrett of Anglo Maltese League Club, who beat Pullu Grech 6-4.

In the Masters final, Frans Mintoff of La Vallette BC defeated Tony Mifsud of St Joseph BC, Msida, 5-3 to win the championship.
