The Malta team taking part in the world championships in Guangzhou, China, started its commitments in the Group stage with a win over Sierra Leone (3-0).

Malta has been drawn in Group N alongside, Jamaica, Qatar, Montenegro, Maldives and Sierra Leone.

Mario Genovese and Edward Baldacchino both won their singles matches.

Genovese defeated Arnold Nigel Garry Snell 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-2) while Baldacchino defeated Prince A. Kaitangi 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-5).

After the first results of yesterday’s matches, Jamaica, Malta and Qatar are leading the standings with two points – one victory each.

Early today, Malta was to meet Qatar in its second match of the tournament.
