Investment, Industry and Information Technology Minister Austin Gatt inaugurated the MyWeb Plus programme to help elderly people learn to use technological tools in everyday life.

The course is given at community centres and picks up where the MyWeb programme left off in basic training. Some 11,000 have learned the basics.

MyWeb Plus covers more varied subjects, including the use of a mobile, digital cameras, microwave ovens, video cameras, and DVD players, apart from more in-depth use of the internet. The programme is part of the strategy for The Smart Island

The training complements schemes subsidising computers and broadband internet. MyWeb Plus is provided free of charge and lasts 20 hours, spread over 10 weeks. Its inauguration was held yesterday at the 10th new community training centre, located at the Employment and Training Corporation offices in Zachary Street, Valletta.
